The opening of the Center on Poverty and Inequality and initial launch of the inequality.stanford.edu website were celebrated with the 2007 Concert for Hope, held at Stanford University’s Memorial Church, through the generous support of the Elfenworks Foundation. The event featured the Elfenworks Festival Ensemble performing a new work composed by Giancarlo Aquilanti, conducted by Maestro Mitchell Sardou Klein, as well a gospel choir led by Ms. Tammy Hall. Faculty Director Professor David Grusky spoke about the urgent need for the Center's work and its plans for research on poverty and inequality, and Elfenworks Foundation Founder and then-CEO (now Trustee) Dr. Lauren Speeth spoke about the Foundation's work and values and decision to play a key role in supporting the Center.
