Poverty Reduction Ballot Initiative

California voters may be asked to decide in November whether to approve a poverty reduction initiative that would fund prenatal services, expanded childcare, early childhood education, after-school and summer programs, job training grants, tax credits, and monetary aid. The ballot initiative — called "California Lifting Children and Families Out of Poverty Act" — would introduce a property tax surcharge on real property with an assessed value of over $3 million. Supporters have until March 21, 2016, to collect the 585,407 signatures required to qualify for the ballot.
