The Berkeley-Stanford Inequality Seminar, established in 2006-07 by Professor Sam Lucas (Dept. of Sociology, UC-Berkeley) and Professor Paula England (Dept. of Sociology, Stanford University), provides an opportunity for faculty in the two universities to come together to discuss issues of poverty and inequality. The format is one of high participation, much give-and-take, and a shared commitment to making sense of the processes and dynamics underlying poverty and inequality. The typical presentation in this seminar is not a lecture, not even a talk, but a spirited dialogue between the speaker and the other participants.
