Anthony Heath, CBE, FBA, is Emeritus Professor of Sociology at Oxford University, Emeritus Fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford and holds a professorship at the Institute for Social Change, Manchester University. He is also a member of the Centre for Research into Elections and Social Trends. His primary research areas are: social mobility, class and educational opportunity, nationalism and identity. Working with Roger Jowell and John Curtice, he directed the 1983, 1987, 1992 and 1997 British Election Surveys. More recently his work has been focusing on ethnic inequality, and he is involved in a major new national study of ethnic minority political integration based on the Ethnic Minority British Election Survey. He has written reports for government on discrimination in the labour market, social cohesion and on national identity.
